FCS-ID: 013/JE10524—212Moroccan-American photographer Jinane Ennasri has shot across the world. Specialising in portraiture and cultural documentation, Jinane’s passion for capturing the everyday moments has taken her from New York City to Sint-Maarten to Doha, where she now lives. With the extensive travel has come a wider cultural peripheral vision but there’s one place, close to her heart, that always opens up new perspectives.
For Jinane, every trip to Morocco- her country of birth- is a chance to explore and rediscover her roots. Like many members of diaspora communities across the world, Jinane, who spent her formative years in New York City, was compelled to tap back into her roots and learn about her country on her terms, through her viewfinder.
Jinane’s body of work from Morocco offers new perspectives, scenes and stories that would otherwise go untold- moments in the street, at the market, on the pitch. This isn’t the Morocco you’ve seen in holiday brochures, rather the Morocco that’s always there, waiting to be discovered.
The photos are intimate, soft, and delicate. They speak to a photographer—a member of the Moroccan diaspora—falling in love with her homeland over and over again. Each photo honours an everyday moment, made beautiful through Jinane’s craft.
