I came to Sofia by accident. A two week long stopover on my honeymoon. My ex worked for a company that had an office in Sofia, and while she was working, I set out on a personal project. My original goal was to photograph amateur leagues in the city, and through that exploration, I met Alex, who helped me find the youth academy at Levski FC. I went to training sessions and matches. I ran around a muddy practice field with my Mamiya 7, praying my fingers could focus quick enough to get the shot.

After Levski, I worked on additional installments of the project in Mexico and Turkey, but I always come back to how special this project makes me feel. I’ll forever chase the feeling of coming across something so ill-prepared and unplanned, and finding exactly what I was looking for within it.
