FCS-ID: 014/AK10424—30"I may have visited many stadiums around the world, but the one field and team I always love to photograph belongs to my village. I grew up going to the local pitch with my mother and brother, dreaming that one day I’d wear the jersey and play for the team myself.
However, Aris Malesiadas was disbanded in the late 2000s. A few years ago, though, a group of friends and I brought it back to life from scratch. Most of the time, I’m on the sidelines, capturing moments with my camera. But when we’re short on players, I put the camera down and join the game.
I love photographing Aris Malesiadas because it reminds me of my childhood. Back then, I’d play carefree on the village’s dirt field—yes, it’s still dirt to this day—without a worry in the world. That carefree spirit is what I try to convey through my photos.
I want to show that football is not just a sport. It’s an excuse to meet up with friends, laugh about how we lose most of the time—yes, we’re far from the best team in the world- and of course play the game we love.”
