Writing Staff: Fay Harvey, Marvin Heilbronn

Client: Nike EMNA
In July 2024, Football Case Study was commissioned by Nike EMNA to document the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco—the continent’s premier women’s football tournament. Held from July 5 to July 26, the competition brought together Africa’s top national teams, culminating in the final in Rabat.

Football Case Study covered 12 matches across Casablanca and Rabat, while also traveling to Marrakech and Tangier to produce cultural documentation. A hallmark of the project was its groundbreaking on-the-ground cultural coverage and reportage, offering a granular understanding of Morocco that set it apart from the field. The work included four longform dispatches and photographic submissions to Nike EMNA, in addition to collaborations with Versus, Dazed Magazine, The Athletic, and the NWSL. Led by a team of women, Football Case Study delivered distinctive coverage to audiences who might not otherwise have engaged with WAFCON, broadening the tournament’s reach and cultural impact.
